It is deeply saddening to learn that more than 1,000 civilians have been killed so far on both sides due to the attacks carried out by the Hamas on Israel and the Israeli military’s subsequent attacks on the Gaza Strip in Palestine.
We, the Tamil people, who have lost hundreds of thousands of our people in the struggle for Eelam homeland liberation for more than 30 years, are aware of the fact that the people will suffer great losses due to the war and that war alone is not a permanent solution. But the great philosophy of freedom that history shows is that it is better to fight and die than to live as a slave. Just as the world crushed the Eelam liberation struggle by branding the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the armed Eelam people’s army at that time, as a terrorist organization, the world is now portraying Hamas only as a terrorist organization, and no one realizes the rationale of its struggle.
Why did the world powers, world leaders, and international organizations that condemn the attack on Israel remain silent without condemning Israel, which has been attacking Palestine for years? Israel has occupied how many Palestinian territories? What is the number of Palestinians killed by Israel in the last 30 years since 1993, when the peace deal was signed? How many have been made refugees? How many schools and hospitals were destroyed by the Israeli army? More than 1,50,000 Palestinians, including 50,000 children, have been killed by the Israeli government since 2008. Why don’t the nations of the world utter a word about all of them? Why have the world’s countries not stopped Israel from destroying innocent Palestinians by dropping banned phosphorus cluster bombs, even at this very moment?
What action have been taken so far by the world countries against Israel, which has trampled on the peace promise made to Yasser Arafat, the ‘Father of Palestine’, Revolutionary leader, who said “I have a gun in one hand and an olive leaf in the other; It’s up to you to decide what to take”, during his historical speech in front of the UN Council.
It was the Israeli state’s blatant betrayal, which led Palestine to sign a peace deal with Israel, that led Hamas to emerge as a liberation movement supported by the majority of Palestinians. All the attacks that Israel faces today are counter-reactions to what Israel has done in the past. Hitting back is never violence; it is the great way to freedom that breaks the shackles of slavery.
Just as the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi would not have taken the decision to destroy the Tamil Eelam liberation by sending a peacekeeping force if he had thought about the pain inflicted by the Sinhalese soldier when he was hit by a rifle on his back, the Jewish race, which has suffered genocide and devastation all over the world, had thought for just one minute that they should not do what the world had done to another race that embraced, supported, and sheltered. Israel would never have destroyed Palestine and its people.
A war that causes devastation Is never needed. There is a need for peace and tranquility all over the world. But the only permanent solution to peace is for the nations of the world to realize that true peace lies in the complete liberation of Palestine!
